Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a process in which the clinician uses a set of hand held instruments to break down the scar tissue and fascial restrictions in soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia, and nerves). The tools are designed specifically to detect and effectively treat areas with soft tissues fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

This is effective because it provides controlled microtrauma to the affected soft tissue structures. The technique stimulates a local inflammatory response, which leads to remodeling and repair of affected soft tissues. The instruments allow doctors to identify and treat specific area. Adhesions within the soft tissue that may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, or repetitive strain, are broken down, allowing the patient to regain function.

Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have develiooped as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.

Types of techniques used in office include:

  • Graston
  • RockBlack
  • Mobility WOD
